It's taking anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks on an average after the introduction of the new lockbox system. We received our receipts in 29 days, so I don't think you should panic yet :)

I had my stamping done in Kolkata consulate on 03/02/2011, they asked me to switch off the cell phone and hand it over to security, security gave me a number tag and I was able to collect my cell from security after my interview.

I think you should apply for H1 extensions about 6 months in advance even if u have applied for AOS. Your driver license might also expire with your H1-b and to renew your license you will need approved H1-Extension. Also just in case something goes wrong with your AOS application and it gets denied, you might be out of status.
I would strongly suggest that you apply for H1-Extension well in advance just to be on safe side.

How are they rejecting the cases.... are they accepting it opening it

Hi guys,
My I140 was approved last week (RD July 2007). I have the approval notice copy from the lawyer but the online status is still saying its pending.
I called uscis and she told me that she is seeing that its pending too but if i have the approval notice then not to worry. It takes them some time sometimes to update the system, as per her.
But my concern is, when my PD becomes current and if their own system shows my I140 penidng(eventhough it's approved), how will they approve 485?
Any one in same boat or any past experience?

now-a-days, Online system is not in sync with the case system. Level CSR will see what you see on online system. As long as you have the hardcopy of the approval, you are good to go. Someday, online status will change.

I hold F1 visa and my new job starts on Sept 1. The int'l student office of my current university mistakenly set my OPT start date on May 6. My OPT has been approved and EAD card arrived.
That is, I will have 120-plus "unemployment" days accumulated by early August, which will then violate the "90-day unemployment rule" of OPT.
I am under tremendous pressure and really want to hear your opinions.

ISO is the one which updates the SEVIS database. Since you claim its their mistake, you should approach them for advise on this as well. I have heard that voluntary work (no pay) in your field of study can help you to maintain your status and not count days towards the 90 day unemployment rule. If true, you can pursue that option as well till your job starts on Sep 1.

As long as she does not work, and she has entered the country using her H4 (as against entering using Advance Parole), she is on H4. Once she uses her EAD, she is no longer on H4. Subsequent US entries will need to be on Advance Parole.

Bob is right. Don't buy anything from any camera shop in Brooklyn. Those package deals are not deals at all. They are a huge scam designed to steal your hard earned $ and leave you so frustrated at their total lack of customer service that you give up. I would like to know the chances of my H1 getting approved. Because the company is small am I going to face any problems? What will be the impact of the size of the company on H1 approvals.
I would really appreciate your inputs because this time I want to resume my career again and I don't want to have any problems with H1.

My GC is based on future employment. I am working for company A on H1, company B has applied I 485 and I 140 also approved. I will be completing 5 years of H1 early next year.

I have had my GC for about two and a half months now. I am currently checking out SOA consultant positions with a consultancy in Saudi Arabia. I don't know the length of the contracts yet. Can I work out of USA and still apply for Citizenship after the wait of 4 years and 9 months ? Does this require me to stay a certain amount of time in USA for every year ? What are the tax implications ? Would I have to file taxes on the income that I earned out of USA ? Thank you.
